Almost All in One

The main thing of the previous article is the position Black 1,4,14,16. White 46 and a King on 24 with Black to move. This position contains two end games, the first one starts with (14-20) 24-15, the second one with (16-21) 46-41.
Below I will give some variations showing different ways of reaching this position. Not All in One this time, but not so many different elements.

In dit artikel geef ik enige variaties die tonen dat deze positie ook op andere wijze te bereiken valt. Maar met wat minder verschillende compositorische elementen dan All in One.

First of all I tried extending the interlude keeping it an end game. The Applet shows the solution till the key position is reached. You can take for granted that after 8 (27) 3 (16-21) 13 (32) 25 (38) 48 the position wins for White without doubt.
So you can concentrate on the very unusual solution.

Eerst laat ik zien hoe ik het intermezzo als eindspel heb uitgebreid. Je kunt rustig aannemen dat na 8 (27) 3 (16-21) 13 (32) 25 (38) 48 de positie voor zwart hopeloos is.
Je kunt je dus concentreren op de zeer ongebruikelijke oplossing die de Applet aangeeft tot de sleutel-positie met de twee eindspelen bereikt is.

The second variation is the result of my effort of getting a minature leading to the key position. As a miniature it is reasonable, but I prefer all the other variations presented on my blog.

The tweede variatie is het resultaat van een poging er een miniatuur op te maken. Als miniatuur kan het door de beugel, maar ik geef de voorkeur aan alle andere bewerkingen die ik op mijn blog laat zien.

I continued my efforts with the goal of making something better, resulting in an extension of the key position. The extension and an additional new variant are shown by the next Applet. The key position is reached of course after (11-16) 33-24. The new variant is (1-6) After that not less than nine moves are the only ones winning, but the final position is not fully thematic.

Ik zette mijn pogingen voort met de bedoeling er iets beters op te maken dan de minatuur. Dit resulteerde in de positie van de volgende Applet. Na (11-16)33-24 wordt de sleutel-positie weer bereikt. Een nieuwe variant wordt getoond in de Applet. Hierin zijn niet minder dan negen zetten de enige winst, maar daarna is het niet scherp meer.

The challenge now of course was composing a combination resulting in this extension of the key position.

De uitdaging was nu natuurlijk om een probleem te maken met deze eindspeluitbreiding als motief.

This composition has a lot to offer and it might have been considered very good if I did not compose better ones. So the goal of improving remained, resulting in the one below. The full solution is given, but includes only one of the two end games.


Deze compositie heeft veel te bieden en men zou het een heel goed probleem kunnen vinden, ware het niet dat het wellicht nog beter kan. Dat probeerde ik dus met het volgende resultaat. Als afsluiting de gehele oplossing althans met één van de twee hoofdvarianten.
